Xorg is failing here

but dont know how relevant it is as Ive used the default genkernel kernel.

Do i have to do something to my kernel ?

you might well have to do something to your kernel;
have you followed the guide:

yes - there is a lot of stuff about compiling your own kernel, which I didnt do , as i used the default genkernel
so do i have to go back to the start and compile my own kernel and go through the whole setup again ?
or how do tweak genkernel ?

orkneywool,

You can still use genkernel. Unfortunately, different graphics cards need different conflicting kernel options, so there is not a one size fits all.
You need to use the menuconfig option to genkernel and give it some help to meet your needs.
