I am increasingly confused with portage.

Code:
net-fs/samba:0

  (net-fs/samba-4.2.7:0/0::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
    >=net-fs/samba-4.0.0_alpha1 required by (net-fs/cifs-utils-6.4:0/0::gentoo, installed)
    ^^             ^^^^^^^^^^^^
    (and 1 more with the same problem)

  (net-fs/samba-3.6.25:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    net-fs/samba[netapi(+),abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?,abi_mips_n32(-)?,abi_mips_n64(-)?,abi_mips_o32(-)?,abi_ppc_32(-)?,abi_ppc_64(-)?,abi_s390_32(-)?,abi_s390_64(-)?] required by (app-emulation/wine-1.7.55:0/0::gentoo, installed)

I read it that wine is requesting samba-3.x

Code:
# grep samba `equery w wine`
IUSE="+abi_x86_32 +abi_x86_64 +alsa capi cups custom-cflags dos elibc_glibc +fontconfig +gecko gphoto2 gsm gstreamer +jpeg +lcms ldap +mono mp3 ncurses netapi nls odbc openal opencl +opengl osmesa oss +perl pcap pipelight +png prelink pulseaudio +realtime +run-exes s3tc samba scanner selinux +ssl staging test +threads +truetype +udisks v4l vaapi +X +xcomposite xinerama +xml"
   netapi? ( net-fs/samba[netapi(+),${MULTILIB_USEDEP}] )
   samba? ( >=net-fs/samba-3.0.25 )

But then looking at the wine ebuild it request >=samba-3.0.25.

I do not understand why portage now blocks as anything samba equal or larger than 3.0.25 so 4.X should also satisfy this.

That's cause samba 4 still lacks ABI_X86=32 support.

A bug about that has been open for several months, but no one's touching it.

Now samba 4.2.7 offers mutilib support. It's still in ~arch, but you can install it. Anything bad happens, please report on https://bugs.gentoo.org :wink:

Cool, I had a quick look to add this myself but ran into trouble with finding python libs/header. I am sure to see how it was done :D

edit: lol, it was patched out so no wonder I could not get it to work :oops:. Oh well, at least I modified the ebuild the same way so I was not off by much :lol:
