hey,

when I put link ppp0="enp5s1" in my /etc/conf.d/net then my ip address changes. I have a fixed ip address.

How is this possible, and what does this line mean?

(I'm trying to configure ppp for making a pptp vpn)

skorefish ... not my area of expertise, but this would be the asignment you'd supply with using PPPoE (ppp over ethernet). You would then provide the 'plugin' used for the ppp0 interface, ie, 'plugins_ppp0="pppoe"', and various athentication details (see: less -p "# PPP" /usr/share/doc/netifrc-0.2.2/net.example.bz2).

Again, not something I'm familiar with, I'd expect you would need a pptp client for this ...

eix net-dialup/pptp:
* net-dialup/pptpclient
   Available versions:  1.7.2-r3^t 1.8.0^t {tk}
   Homepage:            http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/
   Description:         Linux client for PPTP

* net-dialup/pptpd
   Available versions:  1.4.0 {gre-extreme-debug tcpd}
   Homepage:            http://poptop.sourceforge.net/
   Description:         Linux Point-to-Point Tunnelling Protocol Server

HTH in some way & best ... khay
