For the life of me I can't find the solution to this stupid problem. I've recently migrated to systemd (tsk tsk) and when I run ifconfig, my ethernet is configured fine and the loopback device (lo) is also configured but only for ipv6 and no ipv4 (i.e there is no 127.0.0.1). When I run 'ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1 netmask 255.0.0.0 up' it load the correct ipv4 address and everything is fine. When I reboot it's gone. How the hell do I get the stupid systemd to correctly implement the lo device at boot? It's kinda necessary for libvirt and is starting to really piss me off. Thanks.

solved it by deleting all files in /etc/systemd/network/ (despite what the wiki says) and added 'systemctl enable NetworkManager.service'. dhcpcd.service would also probably work. If you follow the wiki and create the 50-dhcp.network file as described, you will not get an ipv4 lo...for whatever reason. Only took me a day to figure it out.
