seg fault fun with swapon

Hi, this my first installation on a sparc, so it a newbie questiion.
After creating the swap partion, preparing it with makeswap I like to activate the swap with swapon. This returns this nice seg.fault.
I'd installed Gentoo on another obscure plattform, an a ppc, a mac. but this is the first time that I got this.
As I#m installing on a small classic, I need the swap. Coud toogleing the swap - device into a ext2 which contains a swap-file a workaround ?
Sorry, I m new to Sparc with linux.
