I upgraded to gnome 3.16 and would like to try Wayland instead of X11. Is it sufficient to remove the X use flag, or is it needed on wayland w/ Xorg as a server to support legacy apps which don't work on Wayland?

I see wayland flags for gdm, but also an Xorg process:

Code:

gdm       2093  0.0  0.0 183964  4628 tty7     Ssl+ Oct31   0:00 /usr/libexec/gdm-wayland-session /usr/bin/gnome-session --autostart /usr/share/gdm/greeter/autostart  --session gnome-wayland
gdm       2097  0.0  0.1 562140 12820 tty7     Sl+  Oct31   0:00 /usr/bin/gnome-session --autostart /usr/share/gdm/greeter/autostart --session gnome-wayland
gdm       2128  0.4  1.3 1345084 105632 tty7   Sl+  Oct31   6:11 gnome-shell --mode=gdm --wayland --display-server
gdm       2152  0.0  0.4 214832 35412 tty7     Sl+  Oct31   0:00 /usr/bin/Xwayland :1024 -rootless -noreset -listen 4 -listen 5 -displayfd 6
root      2354  1.7  0.2 252012 22908 tty2     Rl+  Oct31  21:26 /usr/bin/Xorg vt2 -displayfd 3 -auth /run/user/1000/gdm/Xauthority -nolisten tcp -background none -noreset -keeptty -verbose 3

I'm curious if Wayland will provide better support for my 4k seiki tv/monitor setup.

So the question is: Is there a way to go with a pure wayland setup by changing my use flags and recompiling?

I have an intel i915 nvidia optimus system using bumlebee as mutter/gdm segfault with nvidia as the opengl setting

---- EDIT ----
There is an option in GDM to login using Wayland if you click the settings gear.

You should read the doc of wayland here: http://wayland.freedesktop.org/

The support for 4K screen resolution depends on the graphics driver.
