Hello to everyone,
we are rolling out a remote desktop infrastructure in our company. We have the problem that we are not able to get multimedia redirection to work properly. We installed a gentoo linux with xfreerdp and ffmpeg. When we try to watch videos over Windows RDP we see, that the multimedia redirection is working. (Videos are rendered locally on the windows machine) On the linux client we start our xfreerdp with following parameters:

Anyone has any idea why this isnt working for us? We allready tried diffrent packages, installing everything from source, diffrent linux OS. etc.
Help greatly appreciated.

Gives me the first questions.
How is this encoded.
Answer => Question: How can I enable this ?
Answer => Kernel ? User-space? 3rdparty thing
Issue probably solved.
There are so many use-flags and packages for so many codes, so ... Especially when i read in the command line ffmpeg.
The next issue may be, you are unable to connect and even if you had the right decoder, you still won*t see anything.
You should break down your root cause analysis to
Am I able to connect with this command, in the first place, does the authentication works
Am I able to decode this (You may be able to test it with a file without this authentication stuff)

I assume your comment translates to, that computer a streams thing to computer b, which are both windi and it works right over the network? This is not the same machine, or the same hardware box?

This may work in windi based systems, but you did not do a proper root cause analysis.
In the windi 95 world upwards usually you downlaoded a new software and it may worked.
this is the linux world. We build from source, when it does not work from source, or in a different linux, you may realize it is a configuration issue or it is even not supported by the software.
The black box approach is to break down the issue in smaller problems, and when you verified those smaller boxes work, you put them together and verify if those boxes together works until you are at the end of the project. It is not advised to start from the outside, think like a machine, you need to provide the configuration files and the requirements of the software and of the network, +user rights (usually groups) ....
When I had to guess, you probably lack some useflags, group rights for the user, network access, using the wrong software. |
