Just curious,

The CPU Usage Monitor on a default LXDE install is ok, but I was hoping there would be a disk and network version as well. Does anyone know of such a thing?

Also, I notice that some people have a big panel of indicators, with things like top 3 apps, temp, etc... usually overlaid on the desktop and transparent. What is this called?

Are u talking about LXDE or LXQt? LXDE is no longer developed, use LXQt.

See net-misc/dhcpcd-ui. It will go in the system tray.
