I was just curious, is some sort of installer on the agenda for the future? |

Sure, it's called the LiveCD, and it's already available at your favourite mirror. |

I simply meant this...
There seems to be an abundant amount of posts regarding SILO errors, problems with this and that.... etc
Would an installer like anaconda be too much to ask? the docs are either a) outdated
b) dont cover the install completely
c) just plain dont work |

I followed the install guide and I was able to get my Ultra 1 running.
The only hitch I ran into was booting the Live CD. If you look
under the experimental directory, rather than the release directory
on the FTP mirror sites, you'll find a most recent and stable (IMHO)
pair of sparc live CDs which can be used.
The instructions did go off a little bit on the many
different ways to install it, but if you've installed the x86
way before, working from the Live CD boot environment, and
stick to that course, it should be very easy to follow.
If your machine requires something more complicated
to get on the network, I'm not sure what difficulties
you might have, but with a simple DHCP network environment,
it should be straightforward.
If not, post detailed questions in this forum and someone can
probably help. |

I don't believe that this is the case. If the docs are followed correctly then there shouldn't be any silo problems (if there are errors in the docs, please submit a docs bug).
If you're after some kinda pretty install interface, have you tried GLIS? It's x86 only right now afaik, but it shouldn't be too hard to make it sparc compatible... |
