My kdm couldn't start all the sudden and it says
KCrash: Application 'kdmgreet' crashing...
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib64/kde4/libexec/drkonqi directly
in /var/log/kdm.log. It also complains in the same file that:
Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x40805) with this library (version 0x40806)
I am not sure which one is causing the kdm problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, I can only suggest the obvious thing of syncing and doing a full world update. It looks like it may be related to having inconsistent qt versions. You aren't masking any qt packages, are you? If that does not work maybe try re-emerging 'kde-base/kdm'. |

Thanks davidm. I followed your suggestion and attempted to emerge -uND world. It almost worked but not completely. The emerge stuck at some package app-text/libetonyek, but the kdm is now able to work again.
Now after I login using kdm, a new problem arise, The kde desktop has only wall paper and panel bar, but all the icons in the desktop, including those in the wallpaper and panel bar, are missing. The Kcrash manager complains that baloo and kde activity manager have crashed. I re-emerged kde-base/baloo and kde-base/kactivities, but the icons in kde desktop are still missing.
P.S. All the reported kde problems were all gone after going through "emerge -uND world". |
