Hi everyone,
I have a pretty minimal GUI on my machines (basically chromium and a terminal in xmonad) and I'm fed up with emacs and decided to try kate. I was expecting to compile a huge amount of libraries, but for some reason emerge wants to install vlc. The media player. This makes me think I have screwed up portage somehow. To quote the double rainbow guy, "what does it mean?!?"
Thanks,
John
Edit: I added the use flag "-vlc" and got the expected behavior. I still suspect there is a problem for other people though. |

Add --tree to your emerge options, which will reveal the reason why vlc got pulled in. I suspect it's phonon-vlc, which AFAIK is the current default backend for phonon. |
