Yeah- I'm having problems with this also. IIRC, for me the kcontrol block was resolved by running perl-cleaner --reallyall, removing kcontrol, and then doing a emerge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y @world.

Currently, I'm trying to resolve kde-apps/kmix-15.08.0:5::gentoo and kde-apps/kdemultimedia-meta-15.08.0:5::gentoo.

Just removing kmix version 4.14.3:4::gentoo hasn't worked so far. Just synced portage, so maybe that is resolved now, but i doubt it.

UPDATE: Bugzilla has a new bug for kmix, where they say install kcmutils, which pulls in two more new kde-frameworks packages I didn't have.

https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=558386

Code:
localhost wrc # emerge kcmutils -pv

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild  N     ] kde-frameworks/kpackage-5.13.0:5/5.13::gentoo  USE="-debug -doc {-test}" 96 KiB
[ebuild  N     ] kde-frameworks/kdeclarative-5.13.0:5/5.13::gentoo  USE="-debug -doc" 161 KiB
[ebuild  N     ] kde-frameworks/kcmutils-5.13.0:5/5.13::gentoo  USE="-debug -doc {-test}" 230 KiB

Total: 3 packages (3 new), Size of downloads: 486 KiB

After doing that, kmix-15.08.0 and kdemultimedia-meta-15.08.0 emerged fine. I'm thinking the kcmutils and other two frameworks packages might help fix up other problems. Can't recall if this is one of my manual kde installs, or not, where I left out some packages.

I did those steps
[1] perl-cleaner --reallyall
[2] emerge -C kcontrol
[3] emerge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y @world
and...
I had the same error like before :?

This is the key line. Note the presence of the handbook USE flag in the line - disabling it will resolve the block. If you're using Plasma 5, the new plasma profile will set these flags automatically.

I use ordinary kde not plasma (see bellow). So do you think, should I switch into plasma (is it safe for my kde?) or just mask handbook for kcontrol (but even uninstall of kcontrol did not help).

I wouldn't recommend selecting the plasma profile if you're still using KDE4 - the results could be unpredictable.

I guess uninstalling kcontrol didn't help because one of the meta packages pulls it back in again automatically. Instead, try placing this in your /etc/portage/package.use file:
Code:
kde-apps/kcontrol -handbook

Hmmm..... I did try USE="-handbook" (and handbook) the first thing, and neither one worked.

I might have used this command (with the --complete-graph=y option), and maybe also added a --backtrack=50 parameter also- can't recall at the moment.
emerge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y --complete-graph=y @world

Can you run an emerge --depclean -pv successfully without it reminding you to do the merge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y ?

I could not wait... so I switched profile into plasama for the test and.... so far everything is compiling smoothly 8) :) 8) apart of kmix, but see the second post of wrc1944 in this topic explain this, apartof kdenlive (becasue of the bug) https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=558356 and aparto of app-i18n/man-pages-pl-0.6 (because of the bug) https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1026770-highlight-.html.

I did test new dragonplayer and other staff from 15.08 brach, and so far everything works fine.

Xywa,
That's very encouraging. I've been eagerly waiting for kde5 to get into ~Arch, so maybe I'll switch profiles and give it a try on one of my gentoo installs in the next few days.

Please let us know if you run into any major problems.

So far

[1] emerge --sync few minutes ago

[2] I have moved from mess in first post to this (bellow):
Code:
# emerge -p --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y @world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild     UD ] app-i18n/man-pages-pl-0.6 [20070628-r2]
[ebuild  N     ] kde-apps/kdenlive-15.08.0  USE="handbook -debug -v4l"
[ebuild  NS    ] kde-apps/kmix-15.08.0 [4.14.3-r1] USE="alsa -debug -pulseaudio"
[uninstall     ] kde-apps/kmix-4.14.3-r1
[blocks b      ] kde-apps/kmix:4 ("kde-apps/kmix:4" is blocking kde-apps/kmix-15.08.0)
[ebuild  NS    ] kde-apps/kdemultimedia-meta-15.08.0 [4.14.3] USE="ffmpeg -mplayer"

[3] The only issue I have, I lost my custom [Activities] on desktop and custom wallpapers. I set wallpaers again, but it works only default one activity and I cannot create any new activity, as it doesn't appear. Everything else works fine.

Even with Plasma 5.4 so far the activities and virtual desktop sessions only work partially. They have it fixed (in plasma 5.4) now where it will restore for most qt4 applications on the proper activity/virtual desktop but for the qt5 applications it largely is never restored at all or if so on the first activity and virtual desktop regardless of where it belongs. There are some qt5 bugs they need to fix and afaik they aren't even fixed in master yet. So people wanting activities to fully work probably need to stay on kde4 or at least Plasma 5.4 with only qt4 apps (for the ones they need to restore properly).

You might just need to remove the kde4 version of kmix, and then emerge kmix, and it ought to pickup the kde-apps/kmix-15.08.0:5::gentoo

I just changed my profile to default/linux/x86/13.0/desktop/plasma/systemd, removed my old kde4 stuff with --depclean, and installed plasma-5.4.0 using the Gentoo wiki guide.

Had a few problems with sddm/systemd (not really up on my systemd skills yet), but got plasma installed and now have a mix of kde4 apps which got pulled in, and I added a few more back in.

Apparently, that's the best we can get right now, as a lot of the kde5 packages aren't in portage yet. Could use the overlay, but I don't have the time right now. Qt4 is still hanging around, so I'm happy so far with the mix of old/new stuff. After I swithced profiles and meseed with a few USE flags, kdemultimedia-meta comes up with some of the 15.08 apps (kmix included), so that looks nice!
Code:
gentoo-audio wrc # emerge -pv kdemultimedia-meta

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Hi,

At the moment I cannot update the system for kde profile or either plasma profile - I had no such problem in August, when I switched into plasma profile (apart kmix).

So how should the switch into plasma looks like now? Apart switching profile, should I unistall all old meta packages?

What's the actual problem? Usually, after a profile switch you want to make sure to pick up all the use flag changes with `emerge -uvaDN world`.

How a look what it looks like for kde and for plasma:

kde
Code:
# emerge -puDN world

That's all? :P

Solution again to be found within portage output:

Code:

Look at the use flag.

EDIT: Again something that ought to go into the plasma profile.

Right - so what does it mean > [-minimal(-)] ? There is no explanation in Gentoo Wiki, and similar question are often.

What is a difference in the emerge -uDN world output (for the future) between eg:
[minimal]
[-minimal]
[-minimal(-)]

I have such a line in /etc/portage/package/use
Code:
kde-apps/kwalletmanager -minimal

but it doesn't work

Answer is in your other thread.

If you scroll up, it has indeed already come up in this very same thread about a different flag. ;)

Hmm that's bad, but what exactly have you rebuilt? Did you move to plasma-5, what profile did you choose? Please give us an update.

EDIT: I don't see how a rebuild would cause this, unless you rebuilt a regular kde4-based system with the plasma profile and then did a --depclean afterwards (don't do this! ever! unless your next step is upgrading to plasma-5). Only emerging kde-plasma/plasma-workspace would rid you of kdebase-startkde automatically but then you'd end up in a shiny plasma-5 session.

After dealing with those blockers, I could finnaly finish my long list for emerge -uDN world (listed few posts above).After this I reboot computer and cannot start kde by typing startx from console. Should I do anything extra apart switching into plasma instead of kde (eselect)?

A few posts above is from August 22. :) In your other thread, there is no mention of kdebase-startkde as well, so it must still be present unless you did some extra step.

If you just did an update, you also can not have plasma-5 installed, yet, as there is no 'slowly moving into plasma-5' at this point, only into kde-applications 15.xs.

Code:
$ equery l -ip kdebase-startkde
$ equery l -ip kde-plasma/plasma-workspace

Once again, what exact profile are you now on?

Hi Genstrom,

I did not managed this time, so I come back into ordinary kde. In august, after switching profile (by eselect) into plasma (8 on list bellow), and after recompiling system, startx gave me a Plasma desktop with few missing features. This time, I coldn't startx kde at all (I did the same steps like in August).

Code:

It doesn't work that way, the profile itself doesn't give you the desktop. You still need to emerge the relevant package(s), since plasma-5 is a different product with all kinds of conflicts with an existing kde4-workspace, there is no auto-upgrade path. Please take a look into https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/KDE/Plasma_5_upgrade#Installation
