Hi, yesterday evening before I went to bed I was starting an update (that run well except for chrome, but that's nothing new).
The problem is that now I can't start Steam anymore. When I try to start it I get the following error:
Code:

Running Steam on gentoo  64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled by the user
Error: You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run:
libc.so.6
mktemp: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib32/libc.so.6: invalid ELF header
Error:
cat: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib32/libc.so.6: invalid ELF header
Press enter to continue:

However the libc.so.6 is there in my /usr/lib32/ folder. Because I thought that there may be a possible corruption fo the shared library, I reemerged glibc (I have abi_x86_32 set as a global use flag), but I'm still Steam just refuses to start. Do you have any ideas what may cause this?

This is saying the bundled libc is currupt.
Might be worth running the steam repair

Somewhere (sorry, I can't seem to find the link any more) I read about a similar issue, and a working workaround was to delete the libc file that comes bundled with Steam, so that the system-installed libc is being loaded instead. I don't have access to a machine with Steam installed right now, but I'd guess the file should be somewhere in ~/.steam/steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/ - I wouldn't completely delete it, but rename it or move it to a different folder, so you can put it back if this workaround doesn't help you.

Edit: I've found the source of my claim: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Steam#Steam_runtime_issues
