That package was updated to EAPI 6 but the patch wasn't EAPI 6 compatible. Sync up and you should be good to go.

I'm having the following issue while installing wine 1.9.20 on gnome 3.22: (using gentoo amd64)

Is this a new GLib build or a rebuild because of the ABI_X86 changes triggered by Wine? If so, does (or did) GLib build with the default USE flags and now fails with the ABI_X86 changes?

The 64 bit version was installed initially before the current issue and due to the wine install, the 32 bit version was to be installed which triggered the issue.

Quote:
If that's the case, I think your problem is elsewhere because the the only difference between the GLib ebuilds in the main portage tree and the project overlays are subslot definitions and my guess is that even if you unmask Gentoo's version, it'll still fail to build.

The following command was issued prior to the failure:
Code:
emerge -av wine winetricks --keep-going

I was left with 12 packages not installed due to the issue. I then re-issued the same command:
Code:
emerge -av wine winetricks --keep-going

and the glib package installed along with the other 11 packages.
I tested this scenario three times on two different computers and the result was the same.
First analyses would seem to say that: one of the other 100 packages that was installed with the first (emerge -av wine winetricks --keep-going) was needed to allow the install of glib.

I don't have the original "full" output but I do have the 12 packages that didn't get installed due to the glib issue:

Not able to auto login to Gnome 3.22.
I can manually login and use Gnome normally but as soon as I setup:
/etc/gdm/custom.conf>AutomaticLoginEnable=True
The boot up process stops just after the "networkmanager" is shown working and then a blank screen with a cursor in the top left corner.
There isn't a /var/log/gdm/greeter.log created for this issue so I "fished" the logs and got the following:

Ahh, it was that kind of issue. Glad you figured it out.

There's already a note about this in the official documentation but I should widen its scope to include all emerges.

Did you also include the user to be logged in?

/etc/gdm/custom.conf:
AutomaticLoginEnable=True
AutomaticLogin=user

If that doesn't work, I'll see what I can do.

After some testing, I reproduced this issue on GNOME 3.22 and discovered that GNOME 3.14 through 3.20 are unaffected. A quick glance at the code indicates that the regression might be due to changes in the PAM implementation. If so, this issue should be easy enough to correct once it's pinned down.

In the meantime, if you are using gnome-base/gnome-light you can mask >gnome-base/gdm-3.22.0 as versions as old as GDM 3.8 should be supported. I'll see about loosening this requirement for gnome-base/gnome as well.

That said, GNOME 3.22.2 is now available. There have been three regressions, of which two have been worked around with the remainder (GDM's automatic login feature) pending. Onwards to 3.24. ;)

I got a strange error, that sometimes locks my session after I log in (I log into GDM, the session starts, I get to the desktop and 1-2 seconds later my session locks and I have to input my password again).

This appears in dmesg:
Quote:
[ 140.051825] gnome-session-f[2712]: segfault at 0 ip 00007fabb969d919 sp 00007ffcead0ba20 error 4 in libgtk-3.so.0.2200.3[7fabb93bb000+6fa000]

It always happens, but when it's the first login (when I just boot Gentoo) it doesn't lock me out. Subsequent logins always lock me out so I have to input my password twice.

Obvioysly that might not be very useful, so if there's anything I can do to get a better dump, let me know how!

There was a recent thread about this but the issue itself is an old one. I personally experienced it in more than one GNOME release version since 3.14 and was never able to pin down the root cause. I don't believe it's related to my patchset since it happens even on SystemD and/or with Wayland. It might even be Gentoo-specific since I never noticed it in Fedora.

There's probalby something basic I'm missing. If you are consistently getting that segfault in dmesg when it happens then I have someplace new to look.

I got the same segfault of gnome-session-f after login, but not the "login twice" issue after lock

Code:
[   28.451277] gnome-session-f[11119]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f0c6e83e549 sp 00007ffc76222680 error 4 in libgtk-3.so.0.2200.3[7f0c6e55c000+6fa000]

I've got an other very annoying issue. There are a lot of graphic gliches. For example, when I drag and drop a windows, some parts remain and then there is a blink between "what it should be" and "the old window"
Don't know where to look for some logs.

My system was working properly before switching to 3.22 (and up to date)

To switch I've done:
- change profile to dantrell-gnome:default/amd64/3.22/extended (was dantrell-gnome:default/amd64/3.20/extended)
- emerge -avuDN world

Since you mentioned kernel version / driver version in the thread, here's mine:

Gnome 3.22
x11-base/xorg-server-1.18.4:0/1.18.4::gentoo
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-375.10-r1:0/375::gentoo
sys-kernel/ck-sources-4.8.6-r2:4.8.6-r2::hnaparst

This also happens on my laptop, with Gnome 3.20 and Intel graphics (same kernel and xorg).

I switch to nvidia-drivers (375.10-r1) instead of intel and now get the same issue: need to login twice
Code:

[   25.673499] gnome-session-f[15859]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f398ae2f549 sp 00007fff99c8b9e0 error 4 in libgtk-3.so.0.2200.3[7f398ab4d000+6fa000]

edit:
I fixed my graphics glitches by removing `CLUTTER_PAINT=disable-clipped-redraws:disable-culling` from `/etc/environment`

After some more checking, I don't think this is it. I have the same segfault listed in dmesg but I don't have the "login twice" issue. It went away ~2 months ago and I have no idea why.

I did notice that that both of you are using version 375.10 of the NVIDIA drivers. I'm on 367.57 and I wonder if that makes a difference. However, this wouldn't explain the conflicting case with your laptops.

I tested with my laptop again. Although I can remember this happenning on my laptop (since I didn't even had Linux on my desktop up until a few days ago), I wasn't able to reproduce it as of now, so let's leave it at that.

But I think I found the problem in /var/log/messages:
Code:

Don't know if the dbus messages are relevant or not, but the gdm-password and gnome-keyring ones are probably about the double login issue. I have no idea how to track this down, but seems like a pam/gnome-keyring misconfiguration. gdm-password says the login keyring was invalid, but actually wasn't, the password was correct.

Has anyone gotten this extension to work with 3.22?
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/427/workspaces-to-dock/
When installed, it either shows "ERROR" via the browser or the on/off switch in gnome-tweak-tool is grayed out with an "!" inside a triangle.
I'm mainly posting this is find out whether there is an openrc problem or just an extension problem.

I can reproduce the "invalid" response by inputting the wrong password but like you showed, the issue is actually caused by inputting the correct password. However, I can't genuinely trigger the issue anymore so I'm not sure where to begin. Looks like you are going to have to live with the inconvenience until something gives. :(

A quick check shows it doesn't work for me either. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to rule out the cause of this out anytime soon as I need to prep for my trip (but if I find time, I will).

If you don't feel like fiddling with the relevant USE flags (deprecated and deprecated-background) on x11-wm/mutter and gnome-base/gnome-shell (since it will probably break GDM), the quickest way to verify is probably to install the extension on a Fedora 25 live image.

It may be related to the issue, no?

I've dropped ~/.cache and the issue disappear.

Been running 3.20 without issues ever since I switched, still very happy with all of this! :)

Anyway, I ran into a small blocker issue with libvirt since version 2.3.0 was stabilized a couple a few days ago:
Code:
app-emulation/libvirt:0

  (app-emulation/libvirt-2.3.0:0/2.3.0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    app-emulation/libvirt:0/2.3.0 required by (dev-python/libvirt-python-2.3.0:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge)
                         ^^^^^^^^

  (app-emulation/libvirt-2.1.0-r2:0/2.1.0::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
    >=app-emulation/libvirt-1.2.6:0/2.1.0= required by (app-emulation/libvirt-glib-0.2.3-r1:0/0::dantrell-gnome, installed)
                                 ^^^^^^^^^

Also I was wondering if it's possible to add abi_x86_32 to gnome-base/gnome-keyring because I'm getting a lot of these errors when using Wine
Code:
p11-kit: couldn't load module: /usr/lib32/pkcs11/gnome-keyring-pkcs11.so: /usr/lib32/pkcs11/gnome-keyring-pkcs11.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

About the double-login issue: Disabling automatic screen lock (Security -> Privacy) makes it go away. Don't know why it thinks i has to auto-screen lock as soon as I login.

Since poppler 0.48 was added I'm running into a slot conflict because apparently portage is of the opinion some packages depend on anther version in the same slot (0/63) whereas 0.48 lives in 0/64).
For now I've circumvented this by explicitly adding
Code:
app-text/poppler:0/63
to my world file

Code:
~ ❯ sudo emerge -1av --verbose-conflicts --tree app-text/poppler:0

These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild     U  ] app-text/poppler-0.48.0:0/64::dantrell-gnome [0.46.0-r1:0/63::dantrell-gnome] USE="cairo cxx introspection jpeg jpeg2k lcms utils (-cairo-qt) -cjk -curl -debug -doc -nss -png -qt4 -qt5 -tiff" 1,645 KiB

Total: 1 package (1 upgrade), Size of downloads: 1,645 KiB

!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

app-text/poppler:0

  (app-text/poppler-0.48.0:0/64::dantrell-gnome, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    app-text/poppler:0 (Argument)

  (app-text/poppler-0.46.0-r1:0/63::dantrell-gnome, installed) pulled in by
    >=app-text/poppler-0.26.0:0/63=[cairo] required by (media-gfx/inkscape-0.91-r203:0/0::dantrell-gnome, installed)

I had some spare time so I went over all the relevant issues mentioned thus far:
  • [regression] GNOME Session cannot run inside Xephyr without extra work (workaround applied)
  • [regression] GNOME Control Center > User Accounts will Segmentation Fault (workaround applied pending GNOME bug #773673)
  • [regression] GDM automatic login results in a black screen (fixed)
  • [portage blocker] app-emulation/libvirt (fixed)
That leaves:
  • [bug] GDM sometimes requires you to login twice
  • [abi] gnome-base/gnome-keyring
  • [portage slot conflict] app-text/poppler
GDM and the requested ABI change, I still need to look into (with the ABI change being something I think should be reported to Gentoo). Poppler, I'm going to say that issue is on your end as I cannot reproduce it and it doesn't show up on fresh installs. Updating the package should have been sufficient to trigger rebuilds where needed but unfortunately, sometimes that doesn't happen and you have to do it yourself with something like:

Code:
emerge --ask --nodeps --oneshot app-text/poppler [each package complaining about app-text/poppler]

The automatic login works if I edit /etc/gdm/custom.conf:
Code:
AutomaticLoginEnable=True
AutomaticLogin=myusername

but the gui to set the automatic login is missing.
Thanks

That's intentional due to:
  • [regression] GNOME Control Center > User Accounts will Segmentation Fault (workaround applied pending GNOME bug #773673)
If it wasn't segfaulting for you, I can make that workaround optional.

It works fine "as is" for now, so no workaround is needed. I was mainly looking for some clarification on the issue.
Thanks

I tried the "workspaces to dock" extension on Fedora 25 live and it does work. That is about as far as I can test, without any further knowledge.
