Sddm - No auto login using KDE5

  • Quote

Post by davidbrooke » Tue Jul 07, 2015 8:44 pm

I just completed a couple of installs of ~amd64 KDE5 (openrc) with Sddm. I setup auto login via system settings, selected apply, exited system settings and rebooted. During the reboot, Sddm appears. I check system settings and the auto login feature isn't enabled. I referred to this url for additional help:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/SDDM
It says that there is a configuration file:
/etc/sddm.conf
But I can't find it.
Is there a current issue that causes the auto login feature not to work? Or am I missing something to make it work?
Thanks

I have no idea if the autologin feature is working or not with all configurations. But the config file is optional so you may have to create it yourself.

If you are on OpenRC the problems you may be seeing could relate to the lack of logind.

I don't recall creating a sddm.conf but I believe it may have been created for me when using systemsettings5 with the module for sddm. Here is mine if it helps you with Plasma 5 (and OpenRC) although I do not use autologin:

/etc/sddm.conf

Code: Select all

[Autologin]
Relogin=false
Session=
User=

[General]
HaltCommand=/sbin/halt
RebootCommand=/sbin/reboot

[Theme]
Current=breeze
CursorTheme=Adwaita

[Users]
MaximumUid=65000
MinimumUid=1000
Also I had to run systemsettings5 as root in order to save it properly. I'm not so sure that was the proper thing to do but it worked for me. YMMV.

I created /etc/sddm.conf

Code: Select all

[Autologin]
Relogin=true
Session=plasma
User=myusername

[General]
HaltCommand=/sbin/halt
RebootCommand=/sbin/reboot

[Theme]
Current=breeze
CursorTheme=breeze

[Users]
MaximumUid=65000
MinimumUid=1000
and it worked. This also reflects correctly in system settings>startup and shutdown>login screen>advanced.
Thanks

I´ve done so:

Type

Code: Select all

 sddm --help
Usage: sddm [options]
Options:
  --test-mode Start daemon in test mode
  --example-config Print the complete current configuration to stdout
So you have to

Code: Select all

sddm --example-config > /etc/sddm.conf
Be aware your existing sddm.conf will be overridden.

Regards
