Hello together,
actually i have a malfunction with my brother-MFC-5890CN printer after upgrading to Kernel 4.0.0 and 4.0.5:

Quote:

[ 1117.319008] usb 6-2: device not accepting address 17, error -71
[ 1117.319019] usb usb6-port2: unable to enumerate USB device

The Error comes every time i try to print. If i pull and replug the printers power plug, it seems to work as normal. Till i print a new document.

First i thought it could it be a electrical bypass or electrostatic charge, but the printer and computer itself have a grounding through the power supply.

After some searching about the error and printer itself i found someone who propose irqpolling as Kernel option. Which did not solve the issue for me.

Try to use different usb-Ports did not help.

I am not sure if the issue is solved because in the past it came and gos randomly.

1. I compiled Kernel 3.18.11 and went backwards. Malfunction was still there.
2. So i unplugged the Printer for more then a minute. Changed the USB-Cable (i done that before too but that did not solved the issue) back from the 2 meter hama brand to the original 1m cable. But don't plugged it into the Computer.
3. Pluged in the Printer Power supply.
4. Switched the USB-Mouse to the USB Port where the Printer was before.
5. Plug the Printer in that quondam USB-Port, which was used by the Mouse.

Yeeha - It worked like before.

The other Tips like unbind or bind over /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci-pci/ didn`t chance the result before.

Edit: spelling

Are you having the latest printer driver (03/12/2014)?
Anyway, you should get rid of the USB trouble if the printer were connected via network.

I am still using the drivers from 2008 LPR 1.1.2-2, the Driver Install Tool from 03/12/2014 seems to be a Skript which don't contain the driver itself.

LPR-Printer 1,82 MB
Cups-Wrapper 0,01 MB
Driver Install Tool 0,02 MB

I think i will not have a Printer in my Network, where i can not update or secure the System itself.

Thank you for this advice.

I rebooted twice and the System still works. Use the Kernel 3.18.11. If the error appear again I'll be back.
