Somehow I doubt it; there's far too many people around who don't know that -O3 is the playground for experimental optimisations.
Even if it works with -O3 in the version of gcc you compiled it with, it will be counter-productive soon enough.
I'd just patch the build-system and remove that, personally, then submit that upstream. |

I know it's a stupid question, but have you tried compiling with Clang?
