X Forwarding - Cannot convert string to type FontStruct

Hi everyone,

When I try to perform X forwarding via a work server, I get the following error message:

Cannot convert string "*-helvetica-*-r-normal-*-14-*-*-*-*-*-*-*" to type FontStruct
Warning: Cannot convert string "*-courier-medium-r-*-*-14-*-*-*-*-*-*-*" to type FontStruct

I've searched the internet and people from other distributions have had the same error and apparently been solved by adding xfonts-100dpi packages but I cannot find anything for Gentoo that's similar. The X-forwarding also works from a Debian distribution so I know it's isolated to my Gentoo box.

I have no idea why this error appears though, so I'm at a loss where to start.

Yeah it does look like missing fonts. I thought these were sort of the core fonts, and I think they should be in media-fonts/font-adobe-100dpi (or whatever DPI your screen is at), but xorg-x11 meta should install these.

Do they exist in /usr/share/fonts/100dpi/* ?

Are the font paths being set properly?
