Hi,

I desperatly try to get kde5 up and running. The latest problem I ran into is that I use OpenRC so lightdm is the window manager you should use. So I installed lightdm and lightdm-kde, and changed in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf to "greeter-session=lightdm-kde-greeter" well lightdm start but reports in the x-0-greeter.log:

Code:
file:///usr/share/apps/lightdm-kde-greeter/themes/userbar/main.qml:20:1: module "org.kde.plasma.components" is not installed
     import org.kde.plasma.components 0.1 as PlasmaComponents
     ^

How can I solve this? I have installed "kde-plasma/plasma-meta-5.3.1-r1". Thanks for any help

for KF5/Plasma SDDM is recommended.

SDDM is recommended for systemd.

But the upgrade guide https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/KDE/Plasma_5_upgrade clearly states under section "display manager" that for OpenRC it should be LightDM. Unfortunately the wiki doesn't state how to configure it for kf5. That's my main problem. Also for sddm I wouldn't know how to enable it on OpenRC.

So far I could not make it work correctly.[/url]

Use lightdm-gtk, I've heard that kde-greeter is dysfunctional.

Thanks guys for your help.

the gtk greeter works better but now I have the problem that for some reason it want's to some autologin for user "anonymous". I already played around with all this autologin settings with no luck.

plus as it's a headless machine I wanted to use the vnc server which lightdm offers. But the Xvnc process also dies without outputting any error in the xvnc log of lightdm. And I failed to find some more information on what's wrong with Xvnc because when I start it with "vncserver" script as standalone it works fine.

Initially this was a fresh box where I just tried to install kde5. But It turned out that this is a nearly impossible thing to do for anyone not extremly experienced in xorg/kf5/plasma/lightdm and I'm not a newbie. I have been using gentoo for more then 10 years! Initially started with stage1 installs in the early days. But this stuff drives me crazy. I spent days on googling, looking at guides, forums, logs, etc. and I'm not even close to make it work. Plus nearly no help. Not in the forum (except you guys) and not on irc on #gentoo or #gentoo-kde. So right now I'm really extremly frustated because nothing works, not even close to make it work because you just don't know what configuration you have to put where. Nowhere you can find good information on how you have to configure xorg-server, lightdm and other stuff to make kf5/plasma work. And as I said I spent days on googling and I'm still clueless..... :( :(

I'm not sure about headless but just to clear something up about sddm on a OpenRC install, I am using it and it works rather well. It does try to find logind and reports this in the logs but otherwise it is fine. Also there used to be some sort of problem within plasma or such where the restart and shutdown options were not displayed and so you had to choose logout and then reboot from sddm. However a few weeks ago Kessington (I believe?) committed a fix to the kde-overlay and it has been working great here ever since. :)
