I also updated the kernel from 4.0.4 to 4.0.5.

After rebooting into the new kernel I had neither mouse nor keyboard in the login screen.
First I thought I just forgot to rebuild xf86-input-evdev, so I tried to SSH in and realised I also had no network.
Managed to fix that in recovery mode, apparently the new udev had switched me back to the old eth* naming scheme for some reason -.-
Rebooted with network this time, but still no inputs in xserver.
I deleted all my config files and went back to complete standard config with default 10-evdev.conf, 10-quirks.conf the automatically generated 20opengl.conf and a minimal nvidia.conf with only:
Code:

Section "Device"
   Identifier   "nvidia"
   Driver   "nvidia"
EndSection

Same thing, still no inputs. I tried tons of different config variants but no change.
Xorg.0.log is always some variant of this:
Code:

At some point I just plugged my keyboard out and plugged it back in while xserver was running and suddenly it worked.
So apparently udev wasn't telling xserver about already existing devices.
I used
Code:
udevadm trigger --subsystem-match=input
via ssh and my mouse worked as well.

Now my question is: Why doesn't this happen automatically?
Am I missing some new udev config or something? The news item on udev-init-scripts-29 didn't say anything about that.
I don't really want to have to ssh into my machine on every boot and manually trigger udev input devices.

The inputs keep functioning across xserver restarts but not across system reboot.

It looks like the new udev is broken. I am having no problem with either eudev or mdev.

One thought. Are you running systemd? Maybe it really is needed now. Or maybe you need ~arch systemd.

I gave up on that piece of trash last year(?) when it changed net.eth0 into net.empanada or something like that.

If you like, I will post some simple instructions on how to switch between mdev and udev by running a simple script and rebooting which is how I'm testing mdev.

Gerard.

Ok, thanks for the pointer.

I moved udev-trigger to default runlevel now as suggested and it works for now.
It's not really a solution, though, since it udev-trigger is supposed to be in sysinit.
So I guess I'll just follow https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=551928 until it's fixed.

Thanks again for your help.
