Hell All!

I have installed the package net-misc/ntp-4.2.8-r1. It brought ntp-client, which I configured with "rc-update add ntp-client default". Its status is "started" but my server with that ntp-client has time of about 30 seconds ahead of my other servers. I run no ntpd on that server. In addition, I cannot understand how often does ntp-client updates the time. It seems to me that it updates the time on the start of the script /etc/init.d/ntp-client, then stops updating, and just appears as "started" in rc-status. Is there a daemon that presents ntp-client?

Thank you if you answer.

Alexander731,

As you say, ntp-client does a a once only update at boot. You should also run ntpd to keep the clock correct after ntp-client has done its one time thing.

I recall reading that ntpd will do a step updade when it starts, in which case ntp-client is not required.
You should check that.

net-misc/ntp installs both. Meaning you have to run both at startup.
