Hey guys, i`m new for unix systems(previously get installed ubuntu and arch).
I`v got a problem for startx when i set xorg.conf to anything except Driver "nv", i`m having a problem of "no screens found". So my xfce only works with xorg standard drivers.
I need some nvidia support for my GTS 250 cause this drivers is quite laggy.
For those who may be interested i build kernel with genkernel, and i`v read a few forums where there were saying that may be an static nouveau driver attached to kernel if it were build automatic and it may cause problems with xserver.
Can someone help me with information how to right install nvidia drivers, to get xfce work with nvidia?

In a qoute lower i showing a tread where i get help for Driver "nv"

Probably your best choice right now (to keep you up and running) is to use the Xorg driver instead of the one from nvidia...
this guy had problems as well.

Quote:
1. Waste an entire week
2. emerge xf86-video-nv
3. change xorg.conf to say ->> Driver "nv"
4. startx

In your case just change /etc/make.conf to VIDEO_CARDS="nv"

Code:
# rmmod nvidia
# emerge DuaN world
# emerge xorg-drivers
# eselect opengl set xorg-x11

then change the xorg.conf to
Driver "nv"

I can confirm if you follow the advice on Wiki page you will end up with working drivers.

However, in case you have difficulties let us know what you need help with.

All we know right now is it does not work for you.

Gratz me i have install it succesfull, the only thing that help me is emerge by itself.
When i do "emerge nvidia-drivers" in the end of installation was a warning that this drivers might not work for my card, and in future for X.
So here is solution for NVIDIA GTS 250.
Code:
echo ">=x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-341.0.0" > /etc/portage/package.mask/nvidia-drivers

And still thanks for responding you could close tread.
