The GUI in Firefox, Thunderbird and Libreoffice is sometimes (at random) rendered wrong, showing garbage instead of the usual greyish background. If a redraw is scheduled (e.g. hovering over an element), the redrawn area is rendered correctly.

I suspect an erroneous GUI library update. But what have these three programs in common?

Code:

Hi (Hallo)
Soundds like a Driver Problem with your FX Card,
Onboard Intel? Ati? Slotted Nvidia or Ati? What you use?

It's an Intel 915, onboard (Thinkpad T400S).

But only Firefox, Thunderbird and LibreOffice are affected, whereas a GFX card error would appear indiscriminately?

All those programs are GTK-based. But I did not notice this behaviour in Gimp, though... strange...

normal when you use a onboard Intel, what Type is it then?
ALso the Webkitgtk and firefox plugins are a reason for HIGH! CPU and GPU usage.
When u use an older version of GTK use flags -qt4/5 -kde it will work alot more smoothy.
Listen, since more and more CPP Code is inside Linux, the CPU and GPU usage rised..... with clean C it isnt ;)
BAck to the Roots and let Microsoft create it by their own but denie them to use Gentoo sources like they do at time....
I am sure you understand what i am talking about ;)
i am still on UDEV and masked ALOT newer Version because i use like you onboard Chips, Celeron (Q1900 etc) and other embedded Systems successfull wit older Apps we have.... it works soooo smoothy for me......
Only HD is a Problem then, i have a Sat Receiver (Gentoo Sat Box -Intel i5) who does it then, but isnt online all day, just when i need it;)

The Key is a slotted System with older Version, figure out by your own what works for you, its sooo easy to emerge older VErsions and unmerge newer ;)
and never forget, MIRROR your Apps to an own locally Gentoo Repro ;)

If you need some hints that might help you, send me a message, i am on embedded since over 10 Years ;)

Regards

SN

...OK, that was a bust - some of it sounded like a certain xlib-xcb problem, but you've got that unset...
