Hi, new to community.. Fresh install, udev hung at start up after running nividia-xconfig. I Ctrl-C'd to resume and ran dmesg
Code:
[ 1001.319655] NVRM: The NVIDIA NVS 5100M GPU installed in this system is
NVRM:  supported through the NVIDIA 340.xx Legacy drivers. Please
NVRM:  visit http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html for more
NVRM:  information.  The 349.16 NVIDIA driver will ignore
NVRM:  this GPU.  Continuing probe...
[ 1001.319663] NVRM: No NVIDIA graphics adapter found!
[ 1001.319750] NVRM: NVIDIA init module failed!

I think i need to mask one and emerge the other but I'm not sure exactly how, I know how to mask a package through "/etc/portage/package.mask". But specifically in this context, I'm failing.

Thanks

>=x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.76

was what I needed,

349.16 is what I had been putting.

Something like
Code:
>=x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-341.0.0
would be better, these drivers do get updates when a new kernel is released.

Thank you.

: )

How do I mark as solved now?

Sometimes I mark a package (correctly, copy and pasted - receiving no errors through emerge) but the newest version is still the one downloaded. Is there a config file that has priority over those in package.mask/?
