console blanks in VMWare Fusion 3.1.4 when releasing input

I'm running a vm in VMWare Fusion 3.14 on an intel Mac Pro / OSX Lion that I just finished building this morning. It's setup for console only, no X.

When I release the keyboard and mouse input by pressing the default shortcut control+apple keys, the console blanks! The input then releases. The only way to get back my console is to switch to any of the virtual consoles using the alt+Fn keys.

Any ideas why this is happening? I assumed there was some keyboard shortcut interfering with the virtual terminals, but I don't know where to start looking.

Seems like I answered my own question. This is relevant to anyone that uses an Apple keyboard, and a virtual machine with cmd+ctrl mapped to release mouse.
