So, a couple weeks ago, after a world update, my system fonts look different (namely, those used by Konqueror, Opera, Audacious, general system fonts that are defaults). I'm not sure what package updated to change this, but now, when I start conky, I get this:
Code: | $ conky -c .conky/conkyrc_grey
Conky: forked to background, pid is 29473
elassus@domo-kun ~ $
Conky: desktop window (294) is root window
Conky: window type - override
Conky: drawing to created window (0x2200001)
Conky: drawing to double buffer
Conky: can't load Xft font 'DejaVu Sans Mono:size=7,weight:bold'
Conky: can't load Xft font 'DejaVu Sans Mono:size=7,weight:normal'
Conky: can't load Xft font 'DejaVu Sans Mono:size=7,weight:normal'
Conky: can't load Xft font 'DejaVu Sans Mono:size=7,weight:normal'
Conky: can't load Xft font 'DejaVu Sans Mono:size=7,weight:normal'
Conky: can't load Xft font 'DejaVu Sans Mono:size=7,weight:bold'
Conky: can't load Xft font 'DejaVu Sans Mono:size=7,weight:normal'
Conky: can't load Xft font 'DejaVu Sans Mono:size=7,weight:normal'
Conky: can't load Xft font 'DejaVu Sans Mono:size=7,weight:normal'
Conky: can't load Xft font 'DejaVu Sans Mono:size=7,weight:bold'
Conky: can't load Xft font 'DejaVu Sans Mono:size=7,weight:normal'
Conky: can't load Xft font 'DejaVu Sans Mono:size=7,weight:normal' |
Obviously, everything else can still find fontcofig fonts (and yes, I've told fontconfig to update its cache to no avail), so this is something weird with conky. Any tips?
Cheers,

In my case fonts changed after installing /media-libs/fontconfig-2.11.93, which was added to ~arch a couple of weeks ago. I do not use conky.

yup, that was it. Downgrading fontconfig not only fixed this problem with conky, but also fixed a somewhat drastic issue with lilypond that everybody thought was a ghostscript failure.
It's always satisfying when we can fix to seemingly unrelated problems with one line in package.mask.
Cheers,
