Every since my last world update a few weeks ago, which I don't think included Dropbox itself, Dropbox is showing a strange behavior. Local changes are immediately synced from the top-level Dropbox directory (/home/john/Dropbox), but nothing in a subdirectory is. Remote changes are correctly synced to the local folders, but no local file addition triggers any response from the Dropbox daemon. I see in Dropbox forums that there is maybe an new-ish issue with file attributes. My Dropbox folder is on an ext3 file system. Was there any change to a system package which might be causing this? Permissions all look fine, as far as I can see.

Hey,

do you have user_xattr set in your fstab? If not you could try this.

Greetings

Dirk

Yes, that's set. I misspoke though. It's not an ext3 partition, but a reiserfs one:

/dev/sda7 / reiserfs noatime,notail,user_xattr 0 1

Now that I realize it's reiserfs, I searched again for problem reports and found that with Dropbox version 3.4.3 and 3.4.4 this issue is being widely reported. Apparently version 3.5.7 solves it. Can we get this in the tree soon?

I've tried downgrading, but older versions can't connect with Dropbox servers and they force an upgrade. We REALLY need an ~ package for Dropbox 3.5.7 in the tree. Please?

Hi, JohnN!
I have installed net-misc/dropbox-2.10.52 and it works fine. You can use tip from https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473888#c5 to prevent Dropbox autoupdate:
Code:
rm -rf ~/.dropbox-dist
install -dm0 ~/.dropbox-dist

Also net-misc/dropbox-3.2.6 version bump is present in b.g.o.

Cool. Where did you get that? I've been syncing my portage tree every day, and the highest I get is dropbox-2.10.41-r1.

I just copy ebuild from gentoo tree and rename dropbox-2.10.52 with small addition. I want to have desktop entry to start dropbox:
Code:
--- dropbox-2.10.41-r1.ebuild    2015-02-16 23:17:44.000000000 +0600
+++ dropbox-2.10.52.ebuild     2015-02-21 15:23:16.000000000 +0600
@@ -92,4 +92,6 @@

        dodoc "${T}"/{README,ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS}
+
+       make_desktop_entry ${PN} Dropbox dropboxstatus-logo "Network;FileTransfer"
 }
It works. You can use dropbox-2.10.41-r1 as well.
