Hello I have a strange problem with my splash screean. After I updated the kernel to 4.0.0 its simply don't appear anymore. Also I have now very low resolution while system is loading. No more 1680x1050 :(

This is my GRUB conf:
Code:
kernel /boot/kernel-4.0.0 root=/dev/sda5 rootfstype=ext4 video=uvesafb:1680x1050-32,mtrr:3,ywrap splash=silent,theme:natural_gentoo console=tty1
initrd /boot/initramfs-bootsplash

It worked way back on 2.6.X and 3.X.X kernels.

Anyone?

Here we're have
Quote:
splash=silent,theme:livecd-2007.0 console=tty1
,
for ages! Though console may be out of topic.
One of my two cents would be you may have somehow a problem around vesafb
The other one would be you may have a problem at initrd, but there I have not practice what so ever.

Can't recall exactly when but at some recent kernel upgrade a new FB was proposed to be active by default.
I guess I said no, but should you have said yes by mistake, it may have corrupted your fbcon/splash settings.

From your point of view, is the uvesafb involved in splash, or is it out of scope?
If involved, are you sure it is mandatory, or should it also work without it?

I'm asking because I always try to make things work with a minimalistic approach and I notice I don't have any uvesafb thingie (maybe for years now, if I ever had it).

for the record I only have
Quote:
│ │ --- Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)
│ │ [ ] Allow to specify an EDID data set instead of probing for it
│ │ I2C encoder or helper chips --->
│ │ < > 3dfx Banshee/Voodoo3+
│ │ < > ATI Rage 128
│ │ < > ATI Radeon
│ │ < > Nouveau (NVIDIA) cards
│ │ < > Intel I810
│ │ <*> Intel 8xx/9xx/G3x/G4x/HD Graphics
│ │ [*] Enable modesetting on intel by default
│ │ [*] Enable legacy fbdev support for the modesetting intel driver
│ │ [ ] Enable preliminary support for prerelease Intel hardware by default
│ │ < > Matrox g200/g400
│ │ < > SiS video cards
│ │ < > Via unichrome video cards
│ │ < > Savage video cards
I would recommend either to restart the .config upgrade or you could try to simplify fbcon/splash conf, checking it still works with previously working kernel, then upgrade the .config to the new kernel.

Sorry my answer is a little fuzzy but the subject is fozzy too, IMHO.

Thks 4 ur attention.

After re-reading your post i noticed
Code:
mtrr:3,ywrap
which I never got to work initially (in a laptop dual GC env).
Because the minimalistic worked, I gave this part up.
Since I migrated to single GC, maybe it's time to dig this subject again. ( as far as I remember it has to do with speed/efficiency via closer hardware bindings).

Thks for your attention, interest & support.

I used this wiki long time ago:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Uvesafb

In my config uvesafb is mandatory and it worked for years till now.

I double-checked all kernel options, everything is fine. At leas it was working fine on 3.19.x
