Hi,
I have had all sorts of problems trying to rebuild packages I installed from another machine.
One of the system-breaking ones is glibc correctly building, but not installing /sbin/ldconfig
i.e. :
emerge glibc
[Success]
ls /sbin/ldconfig
no such file or directory
My build log: http://totony.gyc.ca/priv/sys-libs:glibc-2.20-r2:20150404-174138.log [The problem lies in /tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.20-r2/work/glibc-2.20/sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/configure:215: parse error near `user_version=$((`ech...' and all the "__LINUX_KERNEL_VERSION" is not defined [-Wundef] I believe]
My make.conf: http://totony.gyc.ca/priv/make.conf
I have also had a lot of problems with a file named confdefs.h (which is created by autoconf during installation to generate ./configure), but I rebuilded autoconf and nothing changed.
Would anyone know what goes wrong/had similar experiences?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I had a proposition that having the build directory on /tmp caused the error, I moved to a directory on my root folder (with options defaults) and same errors occured. |

Not all problems can be solve by users, more complex ones could be submit to bugs.gentoo.org to get real dev eyes on it.
If they are kind enough they will work on your issue, and if you have a real issue they have no choice to work on it.
Glad for you, you have a real issue there: errors in the build process should bailout and not gives a success build when it is obvious the build is not good.
So even if it is your action that trigger the issue, there's still an issue that the build process didn't catch the result is bad.
First instead of providing your make.conf that gave no info, provide emerge --info (as it will show how your system is setup because of your profile...).
You may also provide more explain on this part "I have had all sorts of problems trying to rebuild packages I installed from another machine. "
What problems? What machine? Why did you do that? |

Thanks, I'll open a bug report soon (I'm rebuilding it, because I deleted the logs)
EDIT: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=545762
An exemple of another problem is I can't build pth:
https://bpaste.net/show/d933f104ae9d (pth build log), and it also seems caused by a faulty configure script (confdefs.h is generated by configure or by autoconf)
I also have other build failures complaining about missing definitions/missing confdefs.h
BUT: Most of my programs do compile smoothly (i.e. gcc does, bash does, binutils, coreutils)
I installed the system I'm having a problem from an existing partition that had a working gentoo environment (using portage --root), because I am looking into installing a gentoo system using alternative methods (i.e. no stage3 uncompression)
My emerge --info:
https://bpaste.net/show/8d173aa20052
Sidenote: I am using hardened-sources-3.18.9 with a custom configuration, but I also tried with other (older) kernels with different configurations to no avail |
