Nvidia and sdlmame- activate/deactive Tv-out on the fly?

I like to play sdl mame on through the tv out. Right now I am doing it with nvidia-settings that detects my display and duplicates the desktop screen to the TV. That means the signal is always on for the hdmi port on my hdmi switch box.....I only want the TV out to be activated when I play mame and deactivated otherwise.

1) Is there a way to play mame on the TV out without doing a duplicate desktop to tv? Like just have the mame go to tv out when it runs
OR
2) Is there a way to activate/deactivate the TV out without going into Nvidia settings?
