I'd wait until the ebuild hits at least the vmware overlay. (See bug 531682 about the difficulties e.g.)

| There does seem like a lot of difficulties with 11 right now. I think I will wait for it to hit the overlay as suggested. |

some kernel module doesnt get compiled . look like kernel api changed and vmware didnot take it into account.
any idea on how to get it to work ?

that is what i thought first. But i had such a hard time getting my kernel conf wright.

You don't start over with a kernel .config.
Using the .config you already have working, copy it to your new kernel tree.
cd to the new tree, that now has a copy of your .config.
run make oldconfig.
This silently drops symbols that are not in the kernel, uses the .config to set options that are still in the kernel and asks you about any symbols not already covered.
The process works both to move a .config from an older kernel to a newer one and from a newer kernel to an older one.
Once you have your legal .config, build and install it using your normal process.
