I recently made the switch from fglrx to radeon/radeonsi for my HD 7850. At first, I only used the VIDEO_CARDS="radeon" flag, but ran into troubles getting direct rendering without radeonsi. I just enabled radeonsi and am running into a problem. Previously, without radeonsi, my desktop worked fine, except that running a compositor with the glx backend made it super laggy (because direct rendering and EGL were not enabled). However, now, when I log into my desktop environment, windows that are on screen when xfce starts are made up of colorful rectangles. No fonts, icons, etc. are visible. When I check my /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I get the following:
Note that I am running Funtoo, not Gentoo. Some of my package versions may be a bit different.
My Xorg.0.log:

Of particular concern to me was the line:
Code: |
(EE) RADEON(G0): Failed to set up textured video (glamor)
|
My emerge --info:

I knew that crossfire was not supported by the open-source radeon drivers for PITCAIRN. What I failed to realize was that having them in a crossfire configuration would cause X.org to fail for no obvious reason. After I removed one of my cards, the problem resolved itself. |
