PostPosted: Thu Feb 19, 2015 6:45 pm    Post subject: Long load times Nvidia trying for 3D Vision Stereo Reply with quote

I am having extremely long loading times due to what appears to be the NVidia driver trying, and failing, to load 3D Vision Support.

I have tried putting the

Code:
Option "Stereo" "0"

in the devices and screens sections of my XOrg configuration files. I have tried this option in each place independently and both places. Any ideas?

File: 50-DeviceNvidia.conf
Code:
Section "Device"
   Identifier   "Device0"
   Driver      "nvidia"
   VendorName   "NVIDIA Corporation"
   BoardName   "GeForce GT 330M"
   BusID      "PCI:1:0:0"
   Option      "Stereo" "0"
EndSection

File: 60-Screen.conf
Code:
Section "Screen"
    Identifier     "Screen0"
    Device         "Device0"
    Monitor        "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth    24
    Option         "Stereo" "0"
    #Option         "metamodes" "1920x1080 +0+0"
    #Option         "SLI" "Off"
    #Option         "MultiGPU" "Off"
    #Option         "BaseMosaic" "off"

I think you refer to "long load times" because of this time gap?
Code:
[    36.311] (II) This device may have been added with another device file.
[    45.193] (II) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Display (MS_ Nvidia Default Flat Panel (DFP-0)) does not

Well, i'm sorry to tell 3D vision has nothing to do with it:
Code:
[   425.387] (II) This device may have been added with another device file.
[   427.477] (II) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Display (Samsung SyncMaster (DFP-0)) supports NVIDIA 3D Vision

I have it too with 3D vision (i'm not using any 3D, just the monitor support it). The speed of hdd, ram could explain the time gap difference.

Now seeing nvidia output 4 times the Display... message
And seeing nvidia output it 12 times on my log (lol yes 12)

I think it is related to any modes you add in your Screen section:
Code:
Modes      "1920x1080" "1680x1050" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "640x480"

5 modes define but 4 are reject and only one is validate.
Code:
[    34.251] (WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "DFP-0:1680x1050"; removing.
[    34.251] (WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "DFP-0:1280x1024"; removing.
[    34.251] (WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "DFP-0:1024x768"; removing.
[    34.251] (WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "DFP-0:640x480"; removing.

So all modes (5) less 1 valid mode = 4, and 4 is the same number of times the "Display" message is shown...

Let's see on my computer:
Code:
        Modes      "1680x1050_120" "1280x1024" "1280x1024" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

Only 1680x1050_120 is working on mine, so 7 modes define, but only 1 working too: 6 are not used.
But i'm using 2 monitors: and 6 useless modes * 2 = 12, again the same number of "Display" message i have on my log

So to me, modes define in the screen section "might" be why nvidia is trying to validate the monitor for each modes you have set.

You could remove them from your Screen section to only keep the one that is valid. Preventing nvidia trying to get monitor state for all modes you have set.
I may try it myself, but my X is too busy to be restart ;)
It won't be that bad, as you will remove modes that couldn't be validate anyway.

Tell us if it was that (as you may already know now, i suppose it might be that, i'm not sure).

No luck with that. I did remove all of the extra modes, and now the log shows no complaints. However, there still seems to be a long time gap in the 3D stereo section.

Question: At what point (in the log) does the nvidia splash screen appear? I am guessing at the end?

Here is my most recent log:
