Hi,

I have a new install and the ALT key not only triggers the correct thing in KDE, but if I use ALT+F1 or ALT+left/right it switches back to a text console vtty. I have to CTRL+ALT+F7 to get back to KDE.

Is there an easy fix?

(It's a hard one to google).

I recall that happening to me six years ago when the keymaps service was in the default runlevel instead of the boot runlevel. Could that be the cause in your case?

Code:
# rc-update del keymaps default; rc-update add keymaps boot

Well I found I had 2 keyboards plugged in. That fixed the ALT key problem. Not sure if the keymaps work yet as I set it manually the last few times.

Console keymap is fine, X's keymaps I have had issues with. The keyboard uses a different driver "evdev" rather than kbd and I haven't figured out how to identify it in the X config yet. I'd rather not specifiy the device as that would mean if I changed the keyboard or add another input device I could lose my keymaps.
