Although it seems to require upower which I currently do not have installed.

I think you can mask upower and something else will be pulled in instead. Don't remember details, there was some split related to sysd or something. I'd have to dig out my laptop to and check versions there.

There is a menu for adding applets but it looks different and Battery Monitor is not listed. But no worries, batti is working fine for me.
