I was recently given an Alfa wireless device. here is the relevant output of
Code:
lsusb

Code:
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0cf3:9271 Atheros Communications, Inc. AR9271 802.11n

I enabled the ath5k drivers in the kernel but ifconfig fails to show the interface. kinda new at this. any suggestions?

I emerged linux-firmware, compiled the kernel for support, and I now have access to the device. thank you.
