I have just returned from a lengthly absence and find kde-4.14 is stable.
Would someone be kind enough to tell me where I can find the sets for kde-4.14 ?

If you can't find them in regular portage, they are probably only available in kde overlay. _________________ backend.cpp:92:2: warning: #warning TODO - this error message is about as useful as a cooling unit in the arctic |

Thanks. This worked perfectly.
In detail, what I did was as follows:
(1) layman -a kde
(2) cd /var/lib/layman/kde/sets/
(3) cp -ar * /etc/portage/sets/
and then since I do not actually use packages from the overlay
(4) layman -d kde |
