|
|
Hi,
After 6 year without EVE Online (I could not run it under wine and I spent ages trying to solve it), I found finaly the easiest way which works with my ~64 Gentoo.
[1] Install app-emulation/playonlinux
http://packages.gentoo.org/package/app-emulation/playonlinux
[2] Run PlayOnLinux
[3] Find EVE online from the list and just install (tutorial video):

[4] Play EVE Online!
[5*] If you have Nvidia Optimus card
Code: | $ primusrun playonlinux |
or optirun instead primusrun |

Hi,
Did someone tested EVE Online through Gentoo? I have heard it is 64bit version in compare to 32bit through Wine (PlayOnLinux). |

Well I have played Eve online about 2 years ago for about 1 year and had fleet fight, was mining, plexes, wormholes and so on, yes it is sometimes slower as under windows, but I never lost a ship regarding it.
Sometimes Windows players crashed while fight when my setup was still running.
I didn't used playonlinux, I went through the howto on wineappd and it worked out of the box for me.

If I remember correctly I installed EvE with a separate WINEPREFIX.

i haven't played eve in a couple years, but that guide looks pretty old...

I managed to get eve working with amd64 running wine staging earlier this month with nvidia-drivers 390 and an nvidia 1060 gtx running alongside an i7-6700k.
Worked great in DX9 mode. DX11 almost worked as well but the in game station interior and space skybox background assets wound not render but hey eve worked in DX 11 mode running on wine.
The key i think is using wine staging and compiling wine staging with ABI_X86="64 32"
The eve online linux launcher project i believe has been abandoned since ccp games fired a lot of staff members many months ago after failed push to adopt VR gaming development. _________________ Compiling Gentoo since version 1.4

I'm not immediately aware who the wine maintainers are for Gentoo however wine was changed for gentoo to permit installing slotted non monolithic builds of wine and the version your able to use can be selected by eselect
wine staging is the wine development branch that supports Directx 11 and some other alterations for graphics api's i'm not immediately able to explain.
Code: | xartin@illusion ~ $ eselect wine list
Available wine versions:
[1] wine-vanilla-2.0.3
[2] wine-staging-2.21 * |
Wine 3.2 is masked for ~arch available in wine-vanilla but i'm not certain if 3.2 includes any of the feature alterations that wine-staging supports. _________________ Compiling Gentoo since version 1.4
