Hi,
I am a bit confused the documentation (https://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/) says to use x86_64 for an Intel Core i3 system, but when I go to the downloads page (https://www.gentoo.org/main/en/where.xml) there is no x86_64 version. I am guessing I should download the amd_64 version? I am looking for a 64 bit Gentoo.
Thanks |

It's just for historical reasons, just like you use 'i686' to refer to a number of different processors from many manufacturers (not only from Intel). AMD just happens to have manufactured the first x86_64 cpu. Intel had a 64 bits cpu already, but it was a different thing and not x86_64 compatible (itanium). |
