PostPosted: Tue Nov 11, 2014 7:06 pm    Post subject: Configure on wine-1.7.21 failing Reply with quote

My system is stuck in an "emerge @preserved-rebuild" loop because configure in wine is failing. I have tried several solutions but so far I have not fixed it.

The error is shown below: a problem with pulseaudio, specifically libpulse, which is required.

I have tried emerging the latest version of pulseaudio (5.0-r5). This does not fix the problem. I have tried emerging the latest version of libao (1.2.0) I have also tried emerging the latest version of wine (app-emulation/wine-1.7.29). This doesn't fix the problem, either..

I need some advice on what else to try.

You could disable Pulseaudio support in Wine, which would remove the dependency on libpulse. I have working sound in Wine without use of Pulseaudio.

I have disabled gstreamer pulseaudio gsm and mpg123 so far and the emerge is now stuck on mpg123...

For some reason the -mpg123 USE flag is not being recognized or honored. That is,

[list=]>=app-emulation/wine-1.7.21 oss pipelight -gstreamer -mpg123 -pulseaudio -gsm

everything shows up in emerge wine -pv except mpg123.

bopper portage # emerge wine -pv

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

    Calculating dependencies... done!

That's probably because there is no such USE-flag. ^^

The ebuild tells us that if the mp3-flag is enabled, we need >=media-sound/mpg123-1.5.0 indeed so it would be mp3 you want to disable.

That should not be necessary, however. Not sure why you don't have the required package being pulled in.

I agree that there didn't seem to be an mpg123 USE flag, but the configuration message shown below implies that there was. So I tried it and was surprised that extraneous USE flags aren't even shown.

I was running media-sound/mpg123-1.18.1. I think that is a newer version of mpg123 than 1.5.x. Just for grins, I set the ~amd64" keyword to have it use the latest version of mpg123-1.21.0.

Yes, the earlier package version should be enough methinks.

Please show us the output of:

Code:
emerge --info media-sound/mpg123

I suspect you need ABI_X86="32 64" for it, as the files you need might have come from an emul-linux package before.

This is just a guess, however!

As Chiitoo suspected, you have only the 64-bit mpg123, but you are trying to build a 32-bit Wine. The Wine ebuild ought to require compatible ABI_X86 values, but it might not. In my opinion, if it does not, that is a bug.

The configuration message is printed by the Wine configure script. Gentoo could try to patch that, but the message should never be shown, so there is no need to patch it. Why are you surprised that the package manager does not show extraneous USE flags? How would the user know which USE flags are meaningful if extraneous ones are also shown?

The error message implied that mpg123 was a USE flag. (--with-mpg123 ...). A previous problem that I was able to solve used that same nomenclature and a USE flag cured that problem.

I have been using wine for a long time and this is the first time this has been a problem.

What is the method for producing the 32 bit mpg123 as well as the 64 bit one?

Sorry, I do not see how you can interpret an autoconf error message as being related to Portage. USE flags sometimes map to configure arguments, but generally this is only when the configure argument happens to have the same name as the logical choice for a USE flag.

Either disable ABI_X86=32 for Wine or enable it for mpg123. It looks like app-emulation/wine-1.7.29 - configure: error: libpulse development files not found or too old, Pulse won't be supported. This is an error since --with-pulse was requested. is about this problem, but the reporter has not yet identified that the ABI_X86 mismatch is the cause.

I'm feeling particularly dense tonight. I'll grant you that maybe I should have known that mpg123 didn't have a USE flag.

The little bit of research I did on ABI implied that it was not like a USE flag: It had to be set as an environment variable. Can I just say "ABI_X86=64" and emerge wine? Alternately ABI_X86=32 and emerge mpg123?[/list]

Looking at the mpg123 emerge I noticed a comment that it was intended to give a way for non native abi's. It would seem that mpg123 should only be included for 32 bit abi's. Do I misunderstand?

[list=]# No MULTILIB_USEDEP here since we only build libmpg123 for non native ABIs.

Never set these options in the environment. It works, but it is not saved, so when next you run emerge, the option will not be effective. The Wine 1.7.29 ebuild appears to have the dependency I mentioned above, so I do not know why the package manager is allowing you to proceed with this set incorrectly.

As you might have now come to notice, that's indeed a configure option, not a USE-flag.

USE-flags do often control these options, however, as was also mentioned already, so you're not completely off the mark. The naming might not match as often though. Anyblue, Portage should indeed complain before you get to the configure phase; there could indeed be a bug about!

One can set ABI_X86="32 64" in make.conf, which was suggested a possible default... wow, more than a year ago... where does the time go... uh, sorry; here is the comment:

Almost out-of-box, I'm still waiting for a reply from certain another developer that are responsible for these so that we could add ABI_X86="32 64" by default for amd64 multilib profile

And your output seems to hint you are possibly using stable with not all app-emulation/emul-linux-x86- packages keyworded, some are 20120520 and some are 20130224 and they can't be mixed together
But I'm not entirely sure, you should rather post output of something like "emerge -pvt emul-linux-x86-xlibs" or possibly "emerge -pvDNut world", the -t (tree) flag is the one that will show what is pulling what

That particular topic has a bunch more discussion on this very change.

Then again, there are also more recent comments like this:

hasufell wrote:
I'm running 4.8 since a long time and steam works fine.

I recommend to not use any multilib stuff (set ABI_X86="64" in make.conf). You don't need it and it will safe you a lot of trouble. Just go with steam runtime.

Here's a link to that topic.

So I guess it's pick yer poison. Sort of like with regular USE-flags: set it either globally or per-package basis. I personally did the former, possibly already a year ago... Have not had any issues, really, though I have not tried to go ABI_X86="64", which is suggested to be problematic.

I guess this might also be the reason for the PulseAudio failure (having it built with ABI_X86="64" instead of ABI_X86="32 64").

By the by, the [code]-tags are nice for all kinds of emerge/configure and such output. ^^
