I try to activate Oroborus window manager in my Gentoo, because I find him sympathetic.
I have two successful installs and sessions in a PCLinuxOS and a Crunchbang systems.
In my Gentoo, with the same configuration, it refuses to respond in my key strokes.
I tried xbindkeys, keylauncher, nothing... I just see a blank screen with my cursor to travel inside.
Lets take it from the start:
I installed Oroborus from the Portage:
Code:
# eix oroborus
[I] x11-wm/oroborus
     Available versions:  2.0.20 {gnome}
     Installed versions:  2.0.20(10:43:49 PM 11/01/2014)(-gnome)
     Homepage:            http://www.oroborus.org
     Description:         Small and fast window manager

I installed xbindkeys:

Code:
# eix xbindkeys
[I] x11-misc/xbindkeys
     Available versions:  1.8.4 ~1.8.5 ~1.8.6 {guile tk}
     Installed versions:  1.8.4(11:25:28 AM 11/03/2014)(tk -guile)
     Homepage:            http://www.nongnu.org/xbindkeys/xbindkeys.html
     Description:         Tool for launching commands on keystrokes

I installed fbpanel:
Code:
 # eix fbpanel
[I] x11-misc/fbpanel
     Available versions:  6.1-r2
     Installed versions:  6.1-r2(05:35:38 PM 11/07/2014)
     Homepage:            http://fbpanel.sourceforge.net/
     Description:         light-weight X11 desktop panel

Downloaded and installed the Oroborus-Theme-Changer.
I made a KDM entry, by creating oroborus.desktop file in /usr/share/xsessions folder:
Code:
[Desktop Entry]
#Encoding=UTF-8
#Type=XSession
Name=oroborus
Type=Application
#Comment=This session logs you into Oroborus Session
TryExec=/etc/X11/Sessions/Oroborus
Exec=/usr/bin/oroborus

and, of course, there is a executable file Oroborus, in /usr/bin.

I configured my xbindkeysrc and oroborusrc files:
Code:
/.xbindkeysrc:

"terminator"
mod4 + t

"xterm"
mod4 + x

"dmenu"
alt + F3

"firefox-bin"
alt + F1

"thunar"
alt + F2

"otc"
alt + F4

"gimp"
alt + F5

"fbpanel"
Alt + F8

Code:
/.oroborusrc

theme=/usr/share/oroborus/themes/pillage
scheme=/usr/share/oroborus/schemes/oroborus

I created a file in my /home, named wmgrs and placed inside it the oroborus-start script:
Code:
#!/bin/bash

# script to "autostart" oroborus

xbindkeys &
fbpanel &
oroborus

I made it executable:
Code:
chmod +x ~/wmgrs/oroborus-start

and edited my oroborus.desktop file, as:

Code:
[Desktop Entry]
#Encoding=UTF-8
#Type=XSession
Name=oroborus
Type=Application
#Comment=This session logs you into Oroborus Session
TryExec=/etc/X11/Sessions/Oroborus
#Exec=/usr/bin/oroborus
Exec=/home/drphibes/wmgrs/oroborus-start

Restarted my system, many times, and all I see is the blank desktop, without key response.
I exited X and ran from the terminal
Code:
oroborus

and received:
Code:
failed to open display (null)!

Can someone help me? What the hell is going on? :(
