Hi.
Tried a couple games on my Thinkpad T60 so far with varying results. I've successfully played Braid and To The Moon before, both of them 2D games. Braid has some pretty godawful performance for a 2D game, but it works.
However, I also tried Bastion, and I tried Transistor. Both made by the same company which could explain the similarities in behavior, but in both games, I see the logos in the beginning. In Transistor, I see the animated game logo and loading bar. However, once I pass this point, both games show mostly black screens. I get into the actual game in Transistor, and the music plays as normal, but almost every texture is missing, almost like 3D support is missing entirely. If you hit the space bar to activate Turn mode, the shadow of Red appears, and it moves as I press the keys, but that's it.
Anyway, I am using the open source radeon drivers. glxgears shows spinny gears but it's vsync'ed so it's 60 fps. Why would this be? It's an older GPU, but these are not graphically intense games, and shouldn't be doing anything fancy.
EDIT: Sorry, I was corrected by a friend - I am not on an R300, I am on an R500. I notice the Catalyst "legacy" drivers list support for the HD 2000 series, of which the HD 2300 appears to be an R500 core? Is this right? If so, does this mean I could maybe have a go at these old drivers?
