Can anyone help me? thx!

Code:
Gentoo tyler # emerge -av decibel-audio-player

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "decibel-audio-player".

emerge: searching for similar names...
emerge: Maybe you meant dev-perl/PerlIO-Layers?

I think that it was removed from the official portage tree.

http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/media-sound/decibel-audio-player/?hideattic=0

You might be able to find it in an overlay, or put it in a local overlay, though.

Indeed, and here is the why:

If you mean the local overlay part, take a peek here:
Note that old ebuilds may or may not work without modifications, so this is not guaranteed to give you what you want without more work.

I do hope this helps!

Thank you Chiitoo , I just tried ebuild, but failed, may not right my operation.

According to this, there's an ebuild for it in the emc overlay. So you could just setup layman, then do "layman -a emc" and you should be able to emerge it. I have no idea about the quality of that overlay though. It might or might not emerge at all.

Thanks i92guboj... it can't work after installing ,pls see as follows...
Code:
Gentoo tyler # layman -a emc

 * Adding overlay,...
 * Warning: an installed db file was not found at: ['/var/lib/layman/installed.xml']
 * Warning: an installed db file was not found at: ['/var/lib/layman/cache_ac494f50f5736be7871962c0dec7b3bb.xml']

Did you configure it properly? Did you add the layman line at the end of your make.conf?

Does layman -L work?

Huh, that's odd. I actually searched for this over at Zugaina during my previous post, and there were none to be found! Perhaps I simply managed to type something completely different into the search-box...

Anyblue, I tested the ebuild just now. I renamed it to get version 1.08, added

Code:
src_prepare() {
   sed -i -e 's/!$(PREFIX)/!$(prefix)/g' Makefile
}

and changed EAPI to 4, for otherwise it installs /usr/bin/decibel-audio-player pointing to decibel-audio-player.py under /var/tmp/portage... the build directory, which doesn't quite work. Got the fix by looking at the older ebuild from https://github.com/nightmorph/overnight.

Even so, both of the builds fail like this:

Python 3.3 and 3.4:

Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/decibel-audio-player/src/decibel-audio-player.py", line 20, in <module>
    import dbus, gettext, gobject, gtk, locale, optparse, sys
ImportError: No module named 'gobject'

Python 2.7:

Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/decibel-audio-player/src/decibel-audio-player.py", line 20, in <module>
    import dbus, gettext, gobject, gtk, locale, optparse, sys
ImportError: No module named gtk

So there's something else amiss as well methinks. I'm not too familiar with Python, yet, so I can't tell right away why it can't import these things. I tried manually setting paths, but that's about it.

Now, it is normal. i according to https://74.125.130.122/#newwindow=1&q=installing+layman installed layman again.

but i can't to add an overlay

Code:
Gentoo tyler # layman -a media-sound/decibel-audio-player

 * Adding overlay,...
 * Exception: Overlay "media-sound/decibel-audio-player" does not exist.

 * CLI: Errors occurred processing action add

Chiitoo, so it seems it can't find some python modules. It will probably take a fair amount of work to run it, which is probably one of the reasons why it was dropped from portage. It seems the maintenance of this package is not-trivil, and the developer which maintained it simply lost interest because he found another alternative.

I can't really help with that, I am not even sure I ever used decibel. :roll:

Thank you i92guboj

layman -a emc OK

but will show this again, however, it can emerge decibel-audio-player.

Code:
Gentoo tyler # layman -a decibel-audio-player

 * Adding overlay,...
 * Exception: Overlay "decibel-audio-player" does not exist.

 * CLI: Errors occurred processing action add
 * Exception: Overlay "decibel-audio-player" does not exist.

The decibel can't start

After adding the emc overlay you emerge with emerge decibel-audio-player. You dont use layman to emerge.

That's because you're trying to add an overlay named decibel-audio-player which doesn't exist. Think of the overlay (emc) as another 'tree', similar to Portage, that has the package decibel-audio-player.

To add to my previous post, I got this running after installing dev-python/pygtk, though only with Python 2. For Python 3, I thought dev-python/pygobject:3 would do the trick, but it does not.

Here's a quick something that works here, although I didn't include anything that would make it use only Python 2, nor a fix for Python 3 (if that's even doable without extensive code re-work), so if Python 3 is the default, something like this will make it run:

Code:
python2 /usr/share/decibel-audio-player/src/decibel-audio-player.py

The ebuild:

This may or may not be the cause, but you probably need not (or should not) run the program as root!

I say that because of the # seen in your command-line. Generally one should not run things like this as root. Usually, depending on whom you ask from, it's a more or less big of a no-no.

Try as a regular user. I have a feeling it might even work then. ^^

Moved from Other Things Gentoo to Unsupported Software. Not about in-tree software so it fits better here.

I use decibel, and nothing else is as stupid simple (meaning straight-forward) to use. I had this problem and changed the line in /usr/bin/decibel-audio-player to:

python2 /usr/share/decibel-audio-player/src/decibel-audio-player.py "$@" &

It seems that changing the system python to 3.4 duffed decibel for me.
