I came to step 15 of the installation instructions (stage 3 install) and then realized that the modprobe command I issued earlier hadn't found the module for my nic card. all the emerge commands result in a network unreachable message.
Because I already ran chroot, I don't know how to access the file system before chroot.
So is my only option to start all over again?
If I need to start over again, I assume that I can leave the fdisk partitions, but start with the network configuration, and the mkfs command, right?
After I set up the gateway, name server, etc, will i be able to access/ping the outside world? will i be able to ping/telnet port 80 of yahoo.com This is before I have untarred the stage 3 image from the cd.
Finally, I don't remember which NIC card I have. maybe 3com something. Given that my network connection never worked, is there any great loss by turning the machine off and starting again?

You can hit Alt-F_ to switch to a different terminal. (F1-F6 work.) Alternatively, you cant type "exit" or Ctrl-D to leave the chrooted environment.
Also, "less /proc/pci" will probably give you clues as to which module to use. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |
