A recent emerge -uDN world pulled up the following:

Code:
The following USE changes are necessary to proceed:
(see "package.use" in the portage(5) man page for more details)
# required by kde-base/kdepimlibs-4.12.5
# required by kde-base/libplasmaclock-4.11.9[semantic-desktop]
# required by kde-base/plasma-workspace-4.11.9
# required by kde-base/kdebase-startkde-4.11.9
# required by kde-base/kdebase-meta-4.12.5
# required by @selected
# required by @world (argument)
=app-office/akonadi-server-1.12.1-r1 soprano

Use --autounmask-write to write changes to config files (honoring
CONFIG_PROTECT). Carefully examine the list of proposed changes,
paying special attention to mask or keyword changes that may expose

Yet, when I look at the use flags for this:

Code:
# equery uses akonadi-server
[ Legend : U - final flag setting for installation]
[        : I - package is installed with flag     ]
[ Colors : set, unset                             ]
 * Found these USE flags for app-office/akonadi-server-1.12.1-r1:
 U I
+ + mysql    : Add mySQL Database support
 - - postgres : Add support for the postgresql database
 + + qt4      : Add support for the Qt GUI/Application Toolkit version 4.x
 - - soprano  : Enable deprecated dev-libs/soprano, needed for nepomuk search
 - - sqlite   : Add support for sqlite - embedded sql database
 - - test     : Workaround to pull in packages needed to run with FEATURES=test. Portage-2.1.2 handles this internally, so don't set it in make.conf/package.use anymore

Why would something that is required for KDE to function require you to explicitly enable deprecated functionality? Why is this even deprecated if it is required?

I think it is pulled in by the default "semantic-desktop" use flag. I may try to disable that use flag and see what happens. However, the argument remains that this should not have been deprecated until it was no longer required for the default KDE build (based on the default KDE profile).

Teegrins, RazielFMX!

Purrrhaps it's due to the feature indeed going away (I think?).

I don't remember the details, for I have stripped my installation of NEPOMUK and friends for a long time now, but I did notice that a new thing, Baloo, I think it is called, is on its way, so perhaps you're hitting packages new enough for that to become available?

It does seem like it might not be until 4.13 where it comes into play, but still, I'd imagine it has a good chance of having something to do with it.

Just a guess!

It's only deprecated from KDE 4.13 and onwards. See bug #508040 for more information.
