I routinely type "exit" in an xterm window to close it, when I'm finished doing whatever I'm doing.
Recently, sometimes this won't close the window, but instead print
"There are stopped jobs."
and then another "exit" will close the window. What's this mean? |

Something is probably suspended by your shell. I often do this to myself when using Ctrl-Z to suspend editor sessions. You can see a list of running jobs with "jobs", and bring them to the foreground with "fg". See the job control section of the bash manpage for details. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
