Hey,
I've just decided to switch my desktop over to gentoo and I've encountered a problem. Here on campus the net techs do their best to stop all file sharing and such but the program for windows, Ares Galaxy, works perfectly and with suprisingly good speeds. I was wondering if anyone know of a linux port of this program or of another less common, yet still populated, file sharing system that might not be blocked on the network here?
Thanks for your help, I hope somebody can give me a lil info

according to google it uses the gnutella network, so just emerge any linux gnutella clients and they should do the same thing |

There must be something different about it because that works while every other file sharing program trying to get on to the gnutella network dies a miserable death at the unsympathetic hands of the net techs here
well, I duno then
Thanks though

The firewalls on campus block the ports that most p2p networks use. I read a while ago that Ares will use only the available ports on your network. Because of this, the "net techs" cant block out ares.
I havnt tried any gnutella clients yet, I might try loading Ares up with wine. |

Thanks, will do
and I call them net techs cause they're student techs that are dumb. They tried to walk me through how to remove welchia and blaster from my linux box... then insisted that I had to do it before they came out to look at my internet connection..
I don't like them lol
