Well KDE 3.1 beta2 is finally installed... but I have a problem :(

When I log into KDM as a normal user (non-root), I get errors about io-slaves that don't exist (like file, device, etc.). Those errors cause my desktop icons to not appear.

Then, when I want to start any program, let's say Konqueror, it gives an error about some blah.desktop file that it can't find (for Konqueror, it was Internet/konqbrowser.desktop I believe).

I was running beta1 before beta2, and I also had the CVS installed for a while (but it had the same errors as I described above). When I log in as root, everything is fine. Desktop icons show up, no errors, all is perfect.

I tried deleting all of the KDE config dirs/files (.kde3.1, etc.) and it still didn't help.

What to do :?:

this happen with all non root users? have you tried creating a new user since kde3.1 beta2 build, and logged in with it?

any other type of guess and check options youve tried besides deleting dirs?

Ok, problem solved :)

I started X with twm, and ran startkde from an xterm.
There I saw it giving some errors about creating stuff in /tmp, so I did rm -rf /tmp/* and everything works fine now :)
