What are people listening to at the moment? I just got into work, and turned on the sound system, so I was curious.
I'm listening to Dream Theater's 'Scenes from a Memory' at the moment. It's the bomb, but its a good thing I have a visual ring on my office phone, or I'd never hear anyone calling again.

African Rhythms by Oneness of Juju. Had DT's Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence on about 18 hours ago, if that helps lend continuity to the thread. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Iron Maiden's Phantom of the Opera (Live version).
I've been playing my music alphabetically to find anything needing to be re-ripped. I'm really looking forward to shuffle, repeat. _________________ I can saw a woman in two, but you won't want to look in the box when I'm through.

Both of my CPU fans, both of my power supply fans, two hard drives, the fan on my GeForce 4 Ti 4400, two case fans, a DVD-ROM, and a CD burner. And the air filter in the corner of the room, but I can't really hear it above my computer.
Oh, yeah, my Altec Lansing surround sound setup... that. I don't remember what playlist I have in. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

For various work-related stress reasons, I have just switched over to NOFX and my systems external speakers.

NP: Fields of the Nephilim - Love under Will
But my playlist definitely includes Bowie most of the time, as the lyrics in my occasionally changing .sig might suggest.

Larde.

Show tunes. The Music Man to be exact. So yeah, I'm a big band/music geek. The big advantage is that I can listen to it at a reasonable volume in my headphones and still hear my boss walk up behind me. |

I haven't had much to listen to lately, but I've had a couple of Purple Motion's better works running through my head the past few days. _________________ "An empty head is not really empty; it is stuffed with rubbish. Hence the difficulty of forcing anything into an empty head."

Plus Chicker by the Polysics.... Strange stuff, a bit like the Spoozys. What do they feed musicans in Japan? I want some !
I love Emusic. They are the best Mp3 service on the net (IMHO)..... $10 a month and unlimited downloads
I've found so much good stuff downloading more or less at random. |

Wait now I'm confused. Who is getting out of who's sight?
For the record the only radio broadcast I listen to is NPR and the occasional Milwaukee Brewers game.
As far as tunes I've been listening to the same two Nico songs over and over again mixed in with some Pink Floyd and Parliament depending on my mood. |

I use to listed to NPR on my way to work, but they really started to get on my nerves (just a bit too one-sided IMO). Yes, Rush is one-sided, but I don't listen to him for generalized news.
I'd rather repeatedly jab alcohol-dipped forks in my eyes than listen to a sports broadcast. _________________ I can saw a woman in two, but you won't want to look in the box when I'm through.

It's interesting how the music selection changes throughout the day. This morning I was listening to show tunes (see my earlier post) and now that the day as progressed I'm on to techno. I'll probably hit a little rap and end up with something like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones before the day is done. |

That's pretty much equal to listening to the Milwaukee Brewers, anyway. And no alcohol smell. |

Good call, but I prefer the local versions. Local issues mixed with national issues. Yummy. _________________ Get Firefox!

He's the man. I was explaining to a friend the other day how some parts of Dreamtheaters 'Finally Free' sounds like the opening bars of 'Second Reality'. This morning I'm listening to Beck's new 'Seachange', which I bought the other night. I have mountains of Beck stuff, because there are few non-blues role models for young harmonica players, and I got hooked at a young age.
On a slightly related Purple Motion note, I once wrote a letter to Skaven, and he wrote back to me. Dear god! It was like sitting on the queens bed!
On a second slightly related ( but even more distant ) note, would any fellow gentoo users be interested in forming up a demo group to maybe enter something in one of the big demo parties in the next few years? All my old demo coding friends have moved on / vanished / burnt out these days.

I've had difficulty in maintaining interest in local issues; probably because I've never lived, as an adult, in an area I considered "Home". _________________ I can saw a woman in two, but you won't want to look in the box when I'm through.

Ah yes, nostalgia. Back in "the day" a friend and I stuck ourselves in my basement well away from annoying things like "lights" and "clocks" and spend the whole weekend coding a complete .s3m player from scratch in 100% hand-tuned assembly. Ok, sure, it only supported the GUS, but who would want to support some lousy card where you have to do mixing in _software_?
Sadly, my artifacts from those days are few (though my buddy still has saved most of the old code). I still have my MC3 Freedom CD, and digging around, I'm sure I can find plenty of old games, demos and bits of interesting code. I understaind that Ralph Brown's interrupt list is still widely available. My best remnant from those days can be found here. Don't worry - it's harmless. A nifty demo effect in 215 bytes - in text mode with sync to vertical refresh to boot (don't try it under Dosemu or anything - I already have, it doesn't work, but it should work in full screen mode under any Win 9x, and possibly 2k and xp too). I could have sworn I had a version that I had trimed down under 200 bytes, but that was the only copy I could find. I also don't know what happened to the source code - I could probably get it back with a disassembler, but IIRC, it used self modifying code to be so tiny, and disassembly might be tricky.
I've heard the scene is still alive... That would be neat. I assume it's all on old hardware - I don't know if it's possible to write truly impressive code on today's machines. I remember being stunned by the chess sequence in Crystal Dreams II, I mean, 1300 flat shaded polygons and a moving omnidirectional light source! Amazing! _________________ "An empty head is not really empty; it is stuffed with rubbish. Hence the difficulty of forcing anything into an empty head."
