Does somebody know of an email chess program for Linux much like MailChess or ECTool for Windows? _________________ Linux user #216018 |

I don't know of any programs like that... I just use ItsYourTurn.com.
Chess, Checkers, Chinese Chess, Backgammon, Stratego, Battleships, Go, Othello, and a bunch more, and they manage the boards and send you an email when your opponent has moved. Works great for me. _________________ "Anything is better than IE, and you can quote me on that." -- Wil Wheaton |

This site looks indeed interesting.
However, what I'm after is a program specialized in email chess (which is much like correspondance chess) which would be able to either pick up chess mails from a POP3 account or scan through a local mailbox looking for and filtering chess mails, and then do all the further processing like displaying board position, calculating response times, creating new emails to your opponents with correct header and move list in PGN format, etc.
Looks like Linux is not much supported in this area.
[EDIT:] I may have a look at cmail. _________________ Linux user #216018 |

Just out of curiosity, what would that system have that IYT doesn't?
Email notification? check.
Displaying board position? check.
Calculating response times? I think so...
Creating new emails to your opponents with correct header and move list in PGN format? If your opponent uses IYT, then this isn't an issue. As for PGN files, there's a link to the current game's PGN file on each page...
Anyhow, I've found it's not that hard to convince the people I want to play to get a free account at IYT, and from then on it's a piece of cake. Of course, I've only played a dozen or so correspondence games (of any kind), so I'm not the expert here.
If you really need a specific Windows program, you could always try it under WINE -- CrossOver works great for this kind of thing.
